Handmade Pastels - Buttery Soft Perfection

I have made great strides in my pastel making. I am especially happy with the
bright clean reds I am now able to produce. Making bright colors requires pure pigment and
none of the fillers like Calcium Carbonate, China Clay, pumice, talc - that often make up a great
deal of manufactured sticks. I've learned to be very sparing on the binders I use. Many times
the pigments need no binders at all. Like cooking, it's a lot of trial and error. Experience pays off
handsomely. Our medium of pastel is all about color and I am sure adding some new colors
will really get your painting going in high gear. Let me pick out an assortment for you
or do some window shopping if you wish.

What Folks Are Saying:
"After discovering Paul deMarrais' wonderful pastels about 6 years
ago, I feel my artwork has grown by leaps and bounds. They are my favorite for laying in
rich, large passages of color and are great for plein air painting where working rapidly is
critical.
Lynette Hayes

Tonganoxie, Kansas
"Paul's pastels are smooth as silk with color
like no other. They are long lasting and very affordable. They paint like butter in a frying pan and
his wide palette variety makes even mother nature envious."
Peggy Buchanan
Pastel Artist
Santa Barbara, California
"I have used Paul's pastels for a number of years
now and I consider them some of my favorite pastels to create my pastel paintings. These pastels
are unmatched in their color and texture qualities. They're smooth and creamy textures give me
the perfect look and feel of any type of mood I want in my paintings. They're vibrant and gorgeous.
They also mix very well with other mediums like oil, acrylic and watercolor and they can be used on
many different textured surfaces. In a word, I have to say Paul's pastels are PERFECT."
Cameron Hampton, PSA
Pastel Artist
Greensboro, Georgia
"I rarely use anything but Paul's pastels because
of the beautiful colors and the way they feel when I use them. I look forward to placing an order
because there are always new and exciting colors. Paul can always be counted on for advice on
any pastel matter as well."
Diane Hamilton
Pastel Artist
Knoxville, Tennessee
"Several years ago I was blessed with the very
good fortune of having my easel set up next to a woman who had in her possession some of
the most brilliant pastels I had ever seen. They were big, fat, luscious and made by the hands
of Paul deMarrais. My first order to Paul was a request for greens. I wanted bright greens, dusty
greens, dark greens and ugly greens. I wanted a green the color of spinach being sautéed in
olive oil. He delivered! Since then, I have acquired just about all of Paul's beautiful colors."

"I have enjoyed using Paul's greens for almost a
decade, since Master pastelist Albert Handel first recommended them. Nature challenges hand and
eye with her unlimited variations of green hues and Paul stepped right up for truth or dare! Whether
painting en plein air or in the studio I reach FIRST for Paul's generously sized, durable, richly
pigmented pastels! No matter how many pastels I use, none compare to Paul's.

Orleans, Massachusetts
"Like most pastel artists, I use many brands to work through
the varying stages of each painting. I depend on the textural consistency and the homogenous color
characteristics of the best manufactured pastels, but when I need that "special something"
I reach for the ones that Paul makes. They are absolutely loaded with pigment, they make my paintings
glow, and they are a joy to work with!"

from display to display and therefore should be evaluated as a representative likeness and not as an
exact match to the actual artwork.
